Vision Problems After a Car Accident

Blurry vision, double vision, headaches behind the eyes, dizziness, and light sensitivity after a wreck are common — and they are real, measurable findings, not something you are imagining.

What people notice after a wreck

Patients describe words drifting on the page, a second faint image beside the first, pressure or ache behind the eyes, queasiness in busy stores or on the highway, and glare that never used to bother them. These symptoms often start days after the collision, once normal reading and screen work resume.

Why your eye exam came back "normal"

A 20/20 acuity chart measures one thing: how small a letter you can identify with each eye. It cannot detect oculomotor injury. Tracking, convergence, and fixation are separate skills that require specific testing, and a routine exam is not built to measure them. That is why a clean exam and ongoing symptoms are not a contradiction.

    What our assessment measures

    • Tracking — how smoothly the eyes follow a moving target.
    • Eye jumps — how accurately the eyes move between two points, as in reading.
    • Fixation — how steadily the eyes hold on a single target.
    • Convergence — how well the eyes aim inward for near work.
    • Near-to-far switching — how quickly focus resets between a page and the road.

Each result is scored objectively against published clinical norms and documented in a formal report reviewed and signed by Dr. Rizwan Jaffer, O.D., Texas License #7014TG. Same-week appointments are available at six Houston-area locations, with Sugar Land at 345 Hwy 6 as the primary office. We see patients from across Texas.

    If you have an attorney

We can provide your lawyer objective documentation of what was measured and how it compares to published norms. Assessments are available under a Letter of Protection — case managers and paralegals can use our LOP referral page. Attorneys evaluating expert support can review vision expert witness services.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my vision blurry after a car accident?

Blur that comes and goes, especially with reading or screen work, usually points to how the eyes focus and work together rather than to the sharpness of each eye alone. Impact forces can disrupt that coordination even when the eyes themselves are healthy.

Can a car accident cause double vision?

Yes. When the two eyes stop aiming at the same point at the same moment, the brain receives two images. This often shows up at reading distance first, then with distance tasks such as driving.

Will my vision problems go away?

Some people improve on their own and others do not. Measuring where you are now gives you a documented baseline, so any change can be compared against real numbers instead of memory.

    Does insurance cover this?

This is a specialized documentation assessment rather than a routine vision benefit. Contact us and we will explain the options available for your situation, including Letter of Protection arrangements when an attorney is involved.
